Octoberfest! Saturday, Sept. 27
100,000+ people jamming the a mile-long stretch of College Avenue, with booths and activities as far as the eye can see - it's Octoberfest, where Appleton really shines. And why do so many flock to our streets? Simple: Tiger Paws!

Hi Jeff, I've always enjoyed your blog. Recently, I came across an article about Appleton that is very troubling and made me a little sick.

I would love it if you could tell this Lawrence student that Appletonisans are not stupid or "dogs."

The article was accurate about at least one thing: "tantalizing Tiger Paws." As for the tone and the insults about overweight people and others, we shouldn't be too outraged (yet). The author is a young student, and the young tend to think that their new-found education is unique and superior - ditto for their slim bodies. Time and changing metabolism often modifies these perceptions and leads to broader, more gentle ways of thinking.
